Lee Charles Gilmour

Lee had a really bad accident back in February 2008, he had gone to visit some friends up in Newcastle, a place not far from where he lives, whilst waiting for his friends to get ready to go out down the town he decided to play on a BMX bike but unfortunately flipped over the handlebars of it and landed on his head, with him being 6ft 3 and 17st the impact was too much for his head to take, and badly damaged his skull and parts of his face and neck.

He was in hospital 7 months,During the first 3 months he was at Newcastle General Hospital,where he fought amazingly, then they decided he was well enough to be moved to a special neurology care home in Peterlee in May, But unfortunately he caught a chest infection and they transferred him to Hartlepool General. He overcame that and a few other chest infections, but in the end his lungs became so badly damaged from infection that the doctors didn't think things would progress any further in his recovery. Doctors decided the best thing to do was transfer him to a community hospital in his home town of Redcar to be close to the people who loved him most and devastatingly he passed away on 30th August 2008 at 9.30am.

During his stay in hospital, despite being unconscious, he showed some signs of awareness, he could put this thumb up and wiggle his toes, and move his head to the direction of your voice, but not very often as it was very hard for just to do that.

Lee's family and I are so very grateful to all the staff in each hospital that helped us through that very difficult time, and even more grateful for the way they did everything they possibly could to make sure Lee got all the care and attention he needed during his stay in the hospital.

Lee was a down to earth lad who loved life, He was always up for a laugh, there was never a dull moment with him around, always making people laugh.

He was a very patriotic young man, who loved his country, he loved it so much he got "England" tattooed on the inside of his bottom lip. Which all his very close friends have got tattooed there too as a tribute to him. He was a very very popular lad, not a bad word could be said about him.

Old Classic Fords, Mainly Ford Capris, were his passion, along with hanging about with his friends and going out on nights out, it wasn't a night out without Lee there! :)

Lee meant the world to everyone, especially me, He was always there for me, making sure I was keeping on the straight and narrow, sorting out problems for me, I could not have asked for a better boyfriend. It wasn't just me who Lee looked out for though, he always had time for his friends and family too, doing the odd job for them and making sure everyone was all right.

He was always on hand to go for a pint or two if any of of his mates had gotten the hump and feeling abit blue, always making them laugh with his daft impressions and quirky sayings he used to have. He had an amazing sense of humour and everything he said/did would just have you in stitches!

He was a very special person to everyone, and I know he's touched so many lives and he will never be forgotten ever, He's just the sort of person who always stays in your mind.

Please Remember Lee, apart of all of us will always be with you , You never were or never will be on your own, because the day God took you away from us, he took part of all of us with you too, things wont even be the same without you but he left a part of you with us all so we can remember the good times we all had together You Rest Peacefully now Baby, You Fought So Hard and Now its time you have 5 minutes as you would say.

I will miss you immensely Lee, You truly do have a heart of gold encrusted with diamonds, you will always be in my heart, in my thoughts and forever in my dreams! Love You Always xxx
